Magnificent Mountains

Mountains.  They are stunningly beautiful, especially when coated in snow.

My first glimpse of gigantic mountains was in 2008.  While in Nepal.  Clem and I spent seven weeks in Nepal during monsoon season.  One afternoon, after coming home from work, we were called to the rooftop and were greeted with this spectacular view – The snowcapped Himalayas peeking through the fluffy clouds.  What a sight!

In El Calafate, the south of Argentina, the landscape is magical too.  From the moment the plan lands you glimpse the mountains and there were many more to explore during our stay.

Not far from El Calafate is El Chalten, after a day of trekking we ate our lunch in view of the Fitz Roy mountain range … Not a bad lunch spot.

Then, while living in Santiago de Chile for ten months Clem and I got see the mountains from our window every morning… well most mornings.  Sometimes the smog is too much and so the view gets a bit hazy but after some rain you are rewarded with a stunning view of the mountains.

You can also very easily travel to The Andes for a day of trekking and by easily I mean it’ll take you about 45 minutes to get to the base… and then up you go!

Here we are…

On my very first weekend in Santiago I was welcomed by these snow capped beauties… then just two weeks before leaving Chile they popped up to say goodbye.

While Clem and I were living in Santiago we went over to Mendoza, in Argentina, for the weekend.  Getting back was more of a problem!  It snowed during our stay there so the crossing from Argentina to Chile was closed.  We waited in Argentina for an extra three days before being allowed to cross back.  But every cloud has a silver lining, this is what we saw on our way back…
