Exploring the Unnamed in Chile

I’m on a trip down memory lane at the moment; revisiting Chilean destinations before I head there in just over two weeks time.  Last week I featured Vilches on the blog and today I’ll be carrying on with the same camping trip and the next place we stopped of at.

Before writing this post I went on Google maps to attempt to find the name of the place but, turns out there isn’t a name for it… I mean, it has a name but it’s probably only known by the people who live there.  So all I can really say is that It’s close to Laguna del Maule.

So, after Vilches we headed to this unnamed place…This definitely isn’t a ‘destination’ in the classical sense; we decided to go there because we saw it was relatively close on the map and was close to a lake.  We camped in a very very small camping site just on the edge of a river.  The views were beautiful; the combination of water and mountains is such a winner.  The mountains were the dusty, crumbly, sand coloured type with parts of greenery and they were beautiful!  We spent time by the river and had the place to ourselves; there were only two or three other groups in the campsite.DSC_0273DSC_0142DSC_0274 DSC_0278 DSC_0307 DSC_0312

The following day we drove close to the border of Argentina to see the lake… well the lake was really small and nothing special but the drive there was stunning so it was worth it!  DSC_0147 DSC_0148 DSC_0158 DSC_0165 DSC_0170 DSC_0174 DSC_0177 DSC_0181 DSC_0182 DSC_0185

These shields are supposed to stop the mountains crumbling onto the road, especially after earthquakes, but I don’t think they really did their job!DSC_0189 DSC_0192

On the ride back we wondered why there was so many vehicles with Chilean flags proudly flying, we the learnt that there had been some kind of rally and so we were stuck in traffic for quite some time…DSC_0178

But we made it in time for a beautiful sunset and some self-mulled wine by the fire.  By self-mulled, I mean we put the bottle of wine next to the fire we made…DSC_0227 DSC_0232 DSC_0230 DSC_0228 DSC_0246

The morning called for poached eggs before setting off for our final destination of the camping trip {coming soon!}DSC_0251Which ‘non-destinations’ have you made ‘destinations’ while travelling?

I’m looking for three guest blog posts for the next few weeks.  If you are interested in writing a travel/ photography post for my blog while I am away i’d love to hear from you; clemandmarcella@gmail.com

  1. Amazing! Absolutely breathtaking site and photos! And I have no idea why, but seeing a photo like the one with the trucks with so many Chilean flags, just makes me so happy 🙂
