I remember going to the flower market on Columbia Road several times as a child. We would go early, as it was only open early back then, and after my parents had bought some plants for the garden, we would have a tortilla from a Spanish café on the road.
Now, Columbia Road Flower Market, East London, heaves with people every Sunday. It’s open longer hours and is famous for it’s Instagram worthy flowers. I hadn’t been since I was a child, so this Sunday my parents and I headed there for a trip down memory lane. We arrived around 11am, and it was choc-a-block with people buying everything from colourful bouquets to plantable flowers, to bulbs to huuuge plants! We did find a Spanish café, but weren’t sure if it was the same one from all those years ago. It’s a great place to visit on a sunny day, and there are lots of nice places to have a bite to eat afterwards. And of course, if you are going to the market, you have to buy some of the amazing flowers!

Which places bring back childhood memories for you?

Such pretty photos! Really is getting me in the mood for choosing wedding flowers. I’m not too picky: as long as they’re colorful and pretty, it sounds good to me!
Oohhh how exciting! I think I’m going to have sunflowers for my wedding bouquet 🙂
Looks lovely! I’ll be heading to London later on this year, so I’ll note this one down!
Ah yay! Have a great time in London 😀
Gorgeous! Ive always wanted to go – all these beautiful blooms make me miss spring here in Australia right now. What I wouldn’t do for a bouquet of peonies…or sunflowers…or tulips. Any will do! 🙂
Aren’t flowers so spring like? I love how they bring so much colour and brightness!
Such a beautiful place to be in London. Thanks for sharing.
I live in London and I blog about everything I do on a daily basis in the City, come have a look your feedback is much appreciated 🙂 https://shenandthecity.wordpress.com/
Thanks Shen! Will check out your blog too 🙂
No problem at all. Thank you 🙂
I love Columbia Road – although it does get a tad overwhelming with all the crowds! You picked up some gorgeous bouquets 🙂
Definately agreed – SO many people, especially because it was a sunny weekend!
Awe thanks for the shout-out 🙂 Those flowers! Swoon. I wish we had a flower market here! My husband and I kinda talked about making it back to London, possibly this summer (we’ll see) but I’m adding this to things to see/do if/when we go back! And maybe we can meet up as well 🙂
Definately add it to the list! Ohhh, if you come to London before we move to Chile, we should definately meet up and do some fun London stuff together, just let me know! 🙂
I love that you went back with your parents for a visit. Those flowers are beautiful, I love all the pictures! 🙂
Thanks Sara! It was a great way to spend the day 🙂
Gorgeous shots!
Thanks so much!
What are those yellow and purple flowers!? They’re beautiful! I don’t think I’ve seen any like that before.
I was hoping somebody could tell me, because I have no idea! I hadn’t seen them before either.
Those are some beautiful flowers! I love flower markets all the colorful flowers can really brighten your day.
Definitely! The colours are so vibrant 🙂
Oooh so pretty. I’m so bad with flower names, but I love that white one with the purple edges! Was the Spanish cafe still good?
That makes two of us, I only know the names of the more common flowers! The Spanish cafe was crazily busy so we went somewhere else, it looked totally different from all of those years ago, it must have been around 15yrs!
Gorgeous flowers! I love a nice bouquet – we’ve been buying one bouquet of flowers every month to light up our kitchen table 🙂 What a cool memory to have as a child 🙂
Aw, that’s such a nice thing to look forward too – they really light up a room, don’t they! 🙂
Wow! some amazing photos here! I went to the market on Sunday, and was stunned! Just see my post 🙂 xx
Thanks so much 🙂 It’s such a great market 🙂
