I would never live anywhere but a city, and a big city at that! I love the city. The diversity of things to do, the buzz, the business. But that doesn’t mean that sometimes you can’t escape the city from within the city!
There is nothing better than city parks as a great way to spend a few hours without having to travel anywhere, or plan a trip away. That escape could be walking distance or a few tube stops away.
Last weekend, I went to Parque Bicentenario, which is just a few minutes walk from the metro and buses, so it couldn’t be easier to escape the city!
Parque Bicentenario was created to commemorate Chile’s 200th year of independence, which was celebrated in 2010. It really is an oasis in the middle of the city that boasts over 4000 trees. And it’s not just about the trees. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of nature…
What better way to relax than seeking the shade in a deck chair under a parasol!
Where do you escape from the city?
Marcella xx
beach:) or mountains:) we’ve got both:)
Sounds great! We are very lucky to have the mountains in Santiago too, and so close 🙂
I’m closer to the sea, plus my parent’s house is in a coastal suburb of Athens so I like to escape there especially during the summer months! This park looks beautiful! I wish we had big parks inside Athens. We have only one that used to be the palace’s garden.
That sounds lovely! 🙂 It’s always good to have some nature to escape every now and then. That’s a shame, I love the parks in both London or Santiago 🙂
Whoa this park looks amazing! I’m definitely going to have to make a trip out there soon! Santiago has so many parks and places to escape the busy hot city! It’s great! 😀
We should go together soon! 🙂
What a beautiful garden, loved those flamingos! 🙂
They were the best, and so unexpected! 😀
That looks gorgeous. Like you, I’m a city girl, but luckily live in London where there are plenty parks and green areas. Epping Forest must be my favourite.
London is the best for green areas, I used to always be seeking them out 🙂 I love all of their parks and how crazily big they are 😀
That park looks amazing! I can’t believe it has flamingoes in it! I like the metalwork men on bikes the best though. They look like they’re having fun 🙂 I find a walk in the countryside centres me like nothing else – as much green as possible and I’m all set.
I knowww, the flamingoes were the best! I totally agree that a countryside trip is always a great way to breathe, but when you only have a few hours the park is the way to go 🙂
I escape from the city by going to an area called the Palos Verdes Peninsula. It is full of high cliffs, coves and great trails. It is hard to think the area is located about 20 miles from Los Angeles.
Sounds amazing! It’s when you can get to a place full of nature, without travelling far at all! I love the mountains here in Santiago for the same reason 🙂
What a lovely park to have in the middle of the city! In my hometown we have a huge park as well. It’s great for running, picnics, or just a nice stroll on the weekend! Ps., I love that photo of the bike statue/thingy! So cool.
So nice! Picnics are the most perfect way to enjoy a day in the park 😀
I love big parks in the middle of the city, and parque bicentenario looks like a good one.. p.s. Mexico celebrated both the 200th anniversary of its Independence and 100th anniversary of its Revolution in 2010 too!
Ahh, I think lots of Latin American countries celebrated around the same time 🙂
What a beautiful park, and such a pretty and calming escape from the city, while still being in the city! Love all these photos, especially those of the flamingoes!! X
Thanks Carly! It really did feel calm and peaceful 🙂 and those flamingoes were the best!!
Cities with great park systems are the best! We live in a small Bavarian town now, so we just walk ten minutes away from our home, and we’re in a forest. 🙂 But while in Paris, I love all the parks, and it’s so wonderful to see a place like that in Chile, too! Thanks for linking up with us!
Totally agree!! Ah wow, a forest so close to your home sounds just amazing 🙂
This park looks great! Can’t believe there are even flamingos! How come I didn’t know about this when I was there, haha. I’ve always thought that I wasn’t a city girl, but lately, I’m starting to like big cities more. I do appreciate the abundance of things to do and variety of food options. And it’s nice to have a park to escape to too!
Isn’t it wonderful?! I adore big cities, no matter what! And big cities with greenery are just that bit better 😉 I totally agree with you about the choice of things to do and the food, of course.
omg, what a park… and that it’s inside a big city makes it even more fascinating 🙂 I can see what you mean that you go to new places, even in the city you live in, to draw inspiration from… thank you so much, Marcella 🙂
It was a great find and a perfect place to spend a restful Sunday 🙂 I’m all about exploring my new city at the moment.
