I firmly believe that you don’t have to travel far to find adventure. Adventure is all around us, we just have to look for it.
That is especially true in Chile as due to the thinness of the country, you are always always close to both the mountains and the beach! One of the greatest local adventures I have found recently is Parque Aguas de San Ramon. It’s a 15 minute drive, or about thirty minutes on public transport from my flat.
The park has four different trekking routes that you can follow leading to lush green, snow capped mountain views, waterfalls and views over the city too. None of them are difficult treks as the majority of them are on flat land, making it the perfect place to spend the day in nature with friends and a picnic. So much so, that I went twice in the space of a month and also loved to see how the landscape had changed in that space of time.
The first time I went was at the end of summer. Lauren, Carlos and two other of our friends packed up a picnic and our hiking boots, not knowing what to expect.
We were in for a lovely treat, just follow the path…Looking behind you to admire the view over the city (and of course, ignoring that line of smog)
Stop for a picnic and devour the juiciest pomegranate!
Then just a month later, at the beginning of Autumn following a few raining days, I returned to be greeted with even lusher green, snowy mountains and the most beautiful colours of Autumn.
Follow the same path… (Scroll up to see how much more snow the mountains had this time)Admire their beauty as you get closer and closer.
And inhale all of the Autumn colours that are on show
The perfect find in the middle of the city.
What are the local gems where you live?

What a beautiful escape! That pomegranate is very tempting right now. #wanderfulwednesday
That pomegranate was delicious, that was during the season for that type of fruit… So juicy! 🙂
How lucky to live near such a beautiful park! Love your photos, Marcella!
Thank you, Ahila! I love that place, and would love to spend even more weekend days there!
Oh how glorious! I love local travel and I especially love hiking! This would be a pretty great trip for me. It really is amazing what you can find outside your front door when you go looking for it.

Local travel is the best, and you can fit it all into a weekend 🙂 I love this find!
So beautiful and I completely agree that you don’t have to travel far to be an explorer. Looking at your own “from” with a different mindset can help! Cheers from Copenhagen. Erin #WanderfulWednesday
Thanks Erin! I love looking around at exploring where I live, especially when I get to see mountains so frequently 🙂
Yes – I miss mountains living here in Denmark! But the biking is easier!
was that a wolf? or a fox?:)
It’s a baby fox 🙂
ok:)) it’s big:)
I’m getting more and more fascinated on Chile the more you write about your adventures. What a fun trip!
Aww, that’s so nice to hear! It’s one beautiful country and I hope to show more and more of it 🙂
I wish I lived near such glorious views! There are local gems here, though, around Dublin (Ireland) – I think people forget when they come here that it’s a short drive from the sea. My favourite local place for sea views, for example, is Dalkey and the little island Ireland’s Eye. The cliff walk to Howth, quite near to Dublin city, is also stunning and the seafood in the pubs at the end of it is your reward.
They all sound amazing, there is nothing like living close to the sea, it means so many local adventures 🙂
It has been a while since I packed a picnic to take on a hike. But you’re making me want to start that up again, especially since so many places around here have picnic benches near the start // end of the trail. Then I could just hop on another one. I love bringing something a little more sophisticated than the usual PBJ, a pomegranate definitely fits the bill.
You should definitely do it, there is something really special about eating outdoors. Especially in beautiful surroundings! 🙂
I love this post so much! I’m a firm believer that you don’t have to travel far in order to have an adventure, and I’m so glad that you feel the same way! It’s amazing how much the landscape changed from season to season!
Yay to that! Adventures can be found anywhere and everywhere!
It was crazy to to see the seasons change so quickly 🙂
What a great vantage point to see the city without having to ride a ropeway up a mountain or an elevator up a skyscrapper! I just LOVE the nature. Even the trees look so interesting. Glad you enjoyed my post on Singapore Gardens Festivals! 🙂 #WanderfulWednesday
It is great! I love just climbing a bit to see views as you see the city gradually get smaller and smaller! The best 🙂
It’s great to hear that you can actually reach this place by public transport! Travelling locally is rather impossible in tiny Tromso if you don’t have a car and renting one is incredibly expensive! Btw, your link on the link-up seems to be broken – or is it just me? Anyway, gorgeous pictures as always!
Thanks!! Yes, it’s just a bus from by our flat and then a walk, so amazing! 🙂
first of all your photos are stunning! I LOVE the pic of the little fox and that juicy looking pomegranate! second, I am a HUGE believer in the fact that adventure is everywhere, even right in our back yard if we have the spirit to find it. I try as much as possible when ever I’m living some where new to make sure I don’t by pass places to eat, or things to do just because they’re “always there”.
Aww, thank you so much!
Totally agree! I always try to have weekend adventures, even if that just means trying a new place at the end of the road. There are always, always new things to try 🙂
I agree with you! I believe you do not have to travel far or spend a lot of money to have a great adventure. Chile may be thin but it is really long. I am sure it contains a lifetimes full of adventures. Like you are exploring all around the capital.
Glad so many of us agree! 🙂
You could travel a lifetime in Chile and never get bored, there is so so much to see. I haven’t even scratched the surface yet!
What a beautiful place, those mountain views are breathtaking! Isn’t it just amazing o live in a place where a quick car/train ride can bring you to new interesting spots and adventure destinations. Japan is the same way, I feel like I travel every weekend. xoxo, nano | http://www.travelwithnanob.com
The mountains were looking pretty amazing that day, so beautiful!
I love that, weekend travel without travelling 😉 Hope you have a nice weekend!
That pomegranate looks super yummy! 🙂
I loved seeing your beautiful images of the mountains and trees along your hike. I also loved that you stayed local. Only recently have I been venturing out trying to find beautiful hikes and locations near me. Although we don’t have quite the contrast in scenery (snow vs. autumn leaves) near where I am; the ground is too flat. Still, it’s always surprising what beauty you can find locally if you just look for it! 🙂
That pomegranate was just delicious, so juicy!!
I love adventuring locally, even if that means finding a new café or piece of street art, adventuring however it is, is the best! Have a nice weekend!! 🙂
I really love some of the dramatic ways you use lines and angles in your photography. The skyline picture was especially enchanting until I found out it was smog, not fog… lol!!!
Aww, thanks so much for the lovely compliment 🙂
Ha, sometimes I kid myself that it’s just a layer of mist 😉
Fab post! I love all the wonderful hikes that you and Lauren have in such close proximity to the city 🙂
Thanks Jessi! We are so lucky to have so many amazing local options 🙂
Such a pretty place. I love bridges like that! And OMG that fox!! The cutest thing ever!!! Also – I love that you and Lauren hang out! x
It’s an amazing place! Yes! Lauren and I get to see each other often, it’s the best! 🙂
Marcella,
I have some questions about the place. It’s necessary to wear hiking boots?
which’s the time you consider appropriate to enjoy this place?
and also, I love your post!
Thanks
Diana! You should definitely go when you come 🙂
You don’t need hiking boots. I did it in boots but it’s a pretty flat walk, it’s only at the beginning where you walk up hill so I think trainers would be ok (sneakers).
We did the walk in around 2 and a half hours, which was the walk that says ‘5 hours’ on the website but I think the over estimate, ha! There is also a longer walk where you get to see a big waterfall, but if you want to do that one then you have to arrive at the place before 9.30am. I want to do that one next time!! 🙂 Let me know if you have any more questions!
I’m definitely thinking about go there! I will talk to my boyfriend this afternoon! 🙂
I loved the idea of the waterfall, i will try to get up early one day, because on vacation is a little difficult… lol!!
Haha, yes 😉 The shorter walk (where I took all of these photos) still has a smaller waterfall, if you don’t want to get up so early, haha! 😉
‘I firmly believe that you don’t have to travel far to find adventure. Adventure is all around us, we just have to look for it.’-i think i’m gonna frame this today!
