An Oasis in Cartagena, Colombia

I’ve never really written about places I’ve stayed here on the blog.  That’s because when I travel I tend to prefer to spend my money on doing activities, rather than the place I stay. So, you are more likely to find me in an Air Bnb or Couchsurfing, or in a hostel or a friend’s home, probably where my best travel memories have been made.

However, when is a better time than on your honeymoon to make an exception to that? When I saw this week’s Travel Link Up theme, I knew exactly where to write about.

We went to Cartagena de Indias in Colombia for our honeymoon and stayed in four different places; three days on an island and three different places in the Centro Historico. But one for me was by far my favourite and was one of the most beautiful and amazing places I’ve ever stayed.

Upon arrival to the boutique hotel, we couldn’t actually find it as you wouldn’t guess a hotel was hiding behind this beautiful outside.dsc04960

When you step inside you are greeted by the sweet smell of incense and the gentle sound of slowly trickling water which comes from the waterfall and stream that runs through the whole lower ground of the hotel.dsc04938 dsc04941 dsc04952 dsc05088Then, you step over the stream as you are lead to your room, which of course in boutique nature are all different insidedsc04955dsc04953We were then told we could wander and see the rooftop, which was two pools and a view over the citydsc05010 dsc05008 dsc04970 dsc04945 dsc04948The hotel looked even more beautiful at night when the lights were dimmed…dsc04996 dsc04997 dsc04989 dsc04995 dsc04978 dsc04980 dsc04971… and the sunsetdsc05060 dsc04993 dsc04990 dsc04969It really was the ultimate oasis in the middle of the city.

… Now back to reality, pass me my tent and sleeping bag as we get ready to head for a weekend of trekking and camping.

  1. That courtyard is just beautiful. I love the water and the walkways and cosy little areas. That’s basically my dream garden. You must have never wanted to leave!

  2. Gorgeous! I maintain that Colombia is a heavily under appreciated destination, and Cartagena in particular. Beautiful pictures, it looks like it was a fabulous stay!

  3. haha I think it’s totally normal not to splurge like that all the time – I mean then we’d have less money to do more travel! But a honeymoon is indeed a great time to splurge on an amazing oasis. It looked so lovely! Love rooftops with a nice view! 🙂

  4. It does look like staying in a jungle! What an incredible looking place. If you can’t splurge on your honeymoon when can you?
