Beautiful Carretera Austral

Hello!  As you read this on Wednesday, I am on my first day back at work after a nine week summer holiday (teacher perks!)…

A week ago, Carlos and I got back to Santiago after fifteen amazing days travelling around The Carretera Austral in Patagonia, Chile.  And it was Incredible!

I got back and sorted through my photos, feeling totally overwhelmed about where to even begin with blogs posts.  So instead of heading straight into writing one. I wanted to show you some of my very favourite photos from the trip, especially since this is an area that is often overlooked in favour of the more popular Torres del Paine in the south of Patagonia.

Bahía Acantilada ~ Where the bay meets the sky.dsc07819The first day of our four day Cerro Castillo trek ~ lush greenery, fluffy clouds and the bluest of skiesdsc07883Day two ~ turning the corner to be greeted by snow capped peaks and glaciers.  We stood in awe for a long while.dsc07928dsc08019Cerro Castillo ~ the rocks below from an old glacier, and the peaks above.dsc08035Villa Cerro Castillo ~ Finding civilisation after four days of trekkingdsc08071Puerto Río Tranquillo ~ finding the bluest of the blue!dsc08098Puerto Río Tranquillo ~ Walk this waydsc08226Puerto Río Tranquillo ~ Finding that rainbowdsc08237Parque Nacional Tamango ~ The clearest water you ever could imagine dsc08255Parque Nacional Tamango ~ A boat breaking up the mirror like waterdsc08270

And that’s just the beginning.  I have so so much beauty to share with you!  Too much in fact!

  1. Can’t wait to read more about your vacation! Some of these pictures look like they could have been taken in Norway! Crazy how similiar South America can be to Scandinavia!!

  2. Um AMAZING. I can’t believe how gorgeous that is. I mean, I’ve always HEARD that it’s beautiful but your pictures definitely prove it! Can’t wait to hear more!

  3. I feel like that’s always the problem with big vacations that are so incredible, it’s so hard to pick a point to start! Your trip looks and sounds absolutely incredible and beautiful! That last picture, the lake literally looks like glass!

  4. Sometimes it can be sooo overwhelming just finding out where to start after a big trip! This was the perfect start 🙂 Love your photos and excited for the stories behind them! (Oh, and welcome back to the internet!)

  5. I would love to have 9 weeks off too! That would be awesome. Anyway, there is no doubt about the beauty of the places you visited. I have know for a long time about the landscapes in Chile. Chilean friends cannot stop to rave about their country. Hope to see someday part of that beauty.

  6. That rainbow must have been pretty powerful because it’s bright even in your photo!! I can’t get over how crystal clear that water is… it’s so unaffected!! Gorgeous!
