When we headed to the south of Chile, we flew into Balmaceda (close to Coyhaique) and wanted to get a bus to start our Cerro Castillo trek the very next day. But, the bus was full so we had to wait an extra day and then get the bus the day after.
Oh, we’ve missed a day of our holiday, was our first thought. But, sometimes the stars align, and you gain an extra experience.
We asked our friends, who we were staying with, what we could do in the area. And, they told us about Bahia Acantilada. We set off, not knowing what to expect, and finding a place of real beauty. Where actually, the clouds and the rain made it that extra bit special.
A place where the bay meets the clouds and the horizon becomes a blur.
And a place that appears to unknown.
A place where the mountains merge with the clouds and create an illusion.
A place where the still water, with tiny ripples, creates a sense of calm.
A place that leaves you feeling calm and at peace.
I’m so glad that the stars aligned!
When did they align for you?

Love this series, Marcella, very beautiful! Marcus
Thank you! 😀
I always get worried when things don’t happen exactly like it planned on trips, but then I feel like these types of experiences happen that never would have happened in the first place if your plans didn’t change! Bahia Acantilada looks absolutely beautiful and the fog makes it look totally unreal!
Exactly! There is always a silver lining, and this was one of those times! 😀
This place looks like it got straight out of a movie. I tend to prefer sunny days but, in this case, I see why fog and drizzle worked perfectly. #WanderlustWednesday
I most definitely prefer sun too! But, this was just so atmospheric 😉
very atmospheric photos!
Thanks!
This place looks so beautiful, you are totally right, clouds make it even more special. And did I spot a private cottage on the shore? Waking up to this view every morning. I don’t blame them for having massive windows.
It’s actually a little cafe, though I’m not sure how they make any money as there were only 3 other people there, and the cafe was closed!
Loving the eerie feeling of this! Feels/looks like you are the only left in the world!
Ha, that would really freak me out! 😉
It’s looks so gorgoeous in the mist! Can’t even begin to imagine what the view must be like on a sunny day 😉
I bet it looks like a totally different place!
Lovely, atmospheric photos!
Thanks Ahila!
Wow, beautiful! It reminds me of Fiordland in the South Island of NZ… that serenity 🙂
Oooh, really? I need to get myself there!
It looks almost British with all that fog! 😉
Ha! So true!
It looks so peaceful and serene! I’m so glad it all worked out in the end 🙂
Thanks Courtney 🙂
What a cool idea for a series! The photos in this one look so ominous!
Thanks Ngaire! 🙂
Those pictures looks so mysterious and magical! 🙂 So beautiful #wanderfulwednesday
Thank you! It was an amazing place 🙂
Beautiful post! Sorry that the bus was full and that it threw off your plans, but like you said, sometimes everything happens for a reason! Although slightly gloomy, this place looks so beautiful! The gloom is just all part of it 😀
It was so nice! And we are so glad the bus didn’t work out for us that day!
Your posts are always so beautifully evocative Marcella!
Thanks so much Emma 🙂
It looks so out of this world! I think it’s amazing that you got to make the most of it – silver lining to everything 🙂
Always! It was such a beautiful find!
