A Lakeside Sunset :: Puerto Varas

What is it about sunsets that make them so special?  The fact that we don’t get to see them each and everyday.  The fact that they always manage to look different, even from exactly the same spot.  The fact that they create a perfect finish to a day.  The fact that they coat the sky in colour.  Or a combination of all of these.  Well, whatever it is, we all go crazy for sunsets.

Last week, I had my Autumn holidays from school so some friends and I headed to the middle south of Chile.  We went to Chiloe and Puerto Varas, which are both beautiful. We didn’t see a single sunset… until an amazing one was waiting to surprise us on the very last night of the six day trip.  We had rented a cabin on the lake of Puerto Varas but had barely seen the sun until the last day because it was so cloudy (and rainy!)

But this one, it was really worth the wait.

It started really normally apart from the fact that those clouds looks so scrumptiously soft and not to mention that Volcano Osorno was there for the show too.DSC08802DSC08804Then the sky lit up, and the extra special thing was that we got that light twice as it was all reflected on the perfectly still water.DSC08808DSC08811DSC08813DSC08818DSC08824It was just so peaceful as the four of us were the only ones down by that part of the lake, meaning it was our own personal sunset show!DSC08828DSC08836DSC08840DSC08846And just for a grand finale, the crescent shape moon appeared and was reflected in the water too.DSC08856DSC08863DSC08866DSC08869

What a special one it was to end our week away!  And worth ever day of waiting for it 🙂

Where have you seen a spectacular sunset?

  1. Gorgeous!! I love how peaceful the lake is, so that the reflection is so clear. That makes the sunset twice as beautiful! I saw some really spectacular ones on Penang… including pretty pink and purple ones!

  2. Wow – we have some good sunsets where I live but nothing like that! I love the colours reflected in the water your pictures are fantastic. #WanderfulWednesday

  3. Sunsets have got to be one of my favorite parts of the day because like you said they’re beautiful and they’re always different! This one was definitely worth the wait and it can be described as nothing short of perfect!

  4. Oh wow, you couldn’t tell that it was going to be such a spectacular sunset from earlier in the evening. The clouds against the sky and the water really made it special! #WanderfulWednesday

  5. Sometimes the best sunsets appear when you are least expecting them. Sometimes you chase them and they do not end up being that memorable. But, when you are just walking around things turn completely unbelievable. Love all the holidays you get. #wanderfulwednesday

  6. Even though you had to wait a while, like you said, this sunset looks way worth it! Just the south bidding you goodbye and thanking you for visiting 😀 Sharing a sunset with good friends is the absolute best!

  7. Wow those are just stunning! There’s nothing like a good sunset. I’ve seen a couple of amazing sunsets off the west coast of Australia, and off the coast of Lombok where you can see the sun set behind the volcano at the centre of Bali. Very pretty! I’ve never seen a lovely sunset like this one, though. The lake takes it up a notch for sure!
