What is it about sunsets that make them so special? The fact that we don’t get to see them each and everyday. The fact that they always manage to look different, even from exactly the same spot. The fact that they create a perfect finish to a day. The fact that they coat the sky in colour. Or a combination of all of these. Well, whatever it is, we all go crazy for sunsets.
Last week, I had my Autumn holidays from school so some friends and I headed to the middle south of Chile. We went to Chiloe and Puerto Varas, which are both beautiful. We didn’t see a single sunset… until an amazing one was waiting to surprise us on the very last night of the six day trip. We had rented a cabin on the lake of Puerto Varas but had barely seen the sun until the last day because it was so cloudy (and rainy!)
But this one, it was really worth the wait.
It started really normally apart from the fact that those clouds looks so scrumptiously soft and not to mention that Volcano Osorno was there for the show too. Then the sky lit up, and the extra special thing was that we got that light twice as it was all reflected on the perfectly still water.
It was just so peaceful as the four of us were the only ones down by that part of the lake, meaning it was our own personal sunset show!
And just for a grand finale, the crescent shape moon appeared and was reflected in the water too.
What a special one it was to end our week away! And worth ever day of waiting for it 🙂
Where have you seen a spectacular sunset?

Stunning pictures! Puerto Varas, such a lovely town… memories!
I loved it! So pretty and peaceful too 🙂
exactly:)!
Gorgeous!! I love how peaceful the lake is, so that the reflection is so clear. That makes the sunset twice as beautiful! I saw some really spectacular ones on Penang… including pretty pink and purple ones!
Ohhh pink ones are so beautiful! They really are the colour of pure nature at work 😉
Beautiful sunset and colors! I guess it was worth the wait!
Totally was 🙂
Wow – we have some good sunsets where I live but nothing like that! I love the colours reflected in the water your pictures are fantastic. #WanderfulWednesday
Wasn’t it just beautiful? The reflections are definitely what made this sunset! 🙂
Gorgeous sunset! I am much more partial to sunsets than sunrises…too early for me!
#wanderfulwednesday
I like that sunsets are a nice closure to the day 🙂
So lovely! Love the reflection of the sunset on the water! I still can’t get over that it’s Autumn down there for you 🙂
Funny, right? Ha! The Autumn colours are glorious 🙂
Sunsets have got to be one of my favorite parts of the day because like you said they’re beautiful and they’re always different! This one was definitely worth the wait and it can be described as nothing short of perfect!
Totally agree! I always swoon over sunset photos, no matter how many I see 🙂
Oh wow, you couldn’t tell that it was going to be such a spectacular sunset from earlier in the evening. The clouds against the sky and the water really made it special! #WanderfulWednesday
That was the beauty of it, it started off so calmly, before lighting up the sky! 🙂
Sometimes the best sunsets appear when you are least expecting them. Sometimes you chase them and they do not end up being that memorable. But, when you are just walking around things turn completely unbelievable. Love all the holidays you get. #wanderfulwednesday
That couldn’t be more true! 🙂 What a great way of putting it.
And yes, it’s a definite teacher perk!
ugh well absolutely perfectly gorgeously colorful photos as per
Why, thank you. That’s too kind!
WOW Marcella, these photos got my jaw drop! Especially the one where the sky is reflected in the water. So beautiful!
Thank you so much. The beauty was all nature 😉
Even though you had to wait a while, like you said, this sunset looks way worth it! Just the south bidding you goodbye and thanking you for visiting 😀 Sharing a sunset with good friends is the absolute best!
Exactly! And I’m exciting to be going again soon(ish), July is going to be here before we know it!
Uhm can you please make a wallpaper of one of these pics for us to download?!! They’re incredibly stunning!!! And that horizon seems endles…
That’s so sweet of you!! If you’d like one, then of course, please let me know which one 🙂
Beautiful photos! The sunset on your last day of the trip was well worth the clouds of the days preceding it.
Thank you! And yes, it was worth all of the waiting 😉
It was definitely all building up to the last night! It looks very peaceful and beautiful, as you say, your own private sunset show!
Yes, so worth the wait!
Wow those are just stunning! There’s nothing like a good sunset. I’ve seen a couple of amazing sunsets off the west coast of Australia, and off the coast of Lombok where you can see the sun set behind the volcano at the centre of Bali. Very pretty! I’ve never seen a lovely sunset like this one, though. The lake takes it up a notch for sure!
Thanks Rachel! 🙂 I can imagine that you’ll be seeing some stunning beach sunsets very soon 🙂
Wow that’s quite the sunset!! I love colourful sunsets, they are the best! Your photos are amazing – I can never photograph them as beautiful as they are haha
Aww, thanks so much for the sweet compliment! But really, nature did all of the work 😉
