When I saw that this month’s TravelLinkUp topic was My Greatest Adventure, I knew exactly what to write about. I had dreamt about South America from the age of 14. I knew nothing about the continent, until one Geography lesson when … Continue reading
When I think back to my five months travelling in South America, there are so many things I think of; the cities I visited, the people I met, the long bus journeys, the colours, the food, the languages, CouchSurfing. But … Continue reading
You know that feeling when you climb up a lot of stairs, like a lot, and you’re out of breath but that’s ok because it was a lot of stairs… well, when you climb up three steps and you are … Continue reading
The best sunset I’ve ever seen was on the coast of Cambodia. I was in a tuk-tuk heading to the beach, and the sun was the most incredible colours. I’ll never forget it, but I didn’t get a chance to … Continue reading
Whenever you visit a city and ask advice for what you should see and do there, you are usually always recommended a view point. “Climb up to _____, to see the amazing view!” “You should definitely go to ____ because … Continue reading
The trip from San Pedro de Atacama in Chile to Uyuni in Bolivia is without a doubt some of the most beautiful and unique landscape I have laid eyes on. The tour takes three days by jeep in which you … Continue reading
One pleasure of travelling is enjoying all the different modes of transport; the comfortable and the not so comfortable! Boating across The holy Ganges river for sunrise and sunset: The traditional image of the London double decker bus: Travelling through … Continue reading
Imagine stepping on the tube in London (or the metro/subway in any big city!) but instead of going from North to South London and from East to West London… you could go from North to South of the world and from East to West too.
You could start your morning watching the sunrise over The Ganges in India in the special city of Varanasi. Watch the people around you getting ready for their day. Those that are bathing and washing their clothes in the holy water.
Ready for breakfast? Take the tube three stops to Seoul, South Korea and order a selection of warm dishes to fill you up for your day! Walk off your big meal by taking a quick walk around and noticing the difference between old and new…
Now for a bit more exploring. You’ll need to take the tube 10 stops to Rome, Italy. Wander the streets and see what you find! Look out for The Colosseum and The Trevi Fountain.
You need to feel some fresh air in your lungs? A bit of nature? OK! How about some sand dunes on the border of California and Arizona? Yes! Ok, then take the tube 5 stops and you will arrive to see these beauties… Don’t forget your sunglasses!
Travel 4 stops south to Isla del Sol, Bolivia to enjoy lunch of trout, chips and salad with a squeeze of lemon. Stretch your legs by strolling around the island, admire the beautiful views. Be careful to walk slowly as the altitude will have you out of breath in no time!
Ok, time to cool down! Head 12 stops to the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. Rest your tired feet in the lagoon and take in the spectacular views around you. Don’t stay too long – you’ll get wrinkly!
It’s tea time! And where better to enjoy a cup of tea and a scone than the picturesque city of Stratford Upon Avon in England. Take the tube 4 stops and visit the home of Shakespeare too!
Hop another 9 stops to Santiago, Chile and find the sun setting over the mountains that surround the city.
Head home to London! Good night 🙂
It is my turn to share with you a glimpse of my favourite travel memories. Although, I have lost many of my travel photos when I was backpacking… My old beloved canon got stolen in Chile after a month of traveling on my own through North of Chile, Bolivia and Peru! I was lucky enough to meet wonderful people on my way who sent me back pictures we took together. Merci les amis!
Here are a selection of 10 of my favourite travels pictures:
(1) Buddhist Temple, Kathmandu, Nepal
Black and white picture revealing all the colours of Nepal’s spiritual and traditional soul: the start of an unforgettable vounteer experience(s).
(2) Diani Beach, Kenya
Backpacking along the coast was a wild experience, trying to get away from the tourists was not easy. Luckily, we found peace on this beautiful beach. Jumbo Kenya! (Hello Kenya)
(3) The Bean, Chicago, USA
I had a magical experience, while living and studying in Chicago. I loved it all! Look at this “magic” bean and see what it reveals!
(4) Valparaiso, Chile
This city has a soul, that’s what I’ve heard and then confirmed. Getting lost in the streets of “Valpo” is the means to discover its unique urban art and the views of its famous bay. This picture was taken when I went there for the first time! Love at first sight!
(5) Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia
The most impressive landscape I have ever seen! The jeep takes you through changing moon-like sceneries right at the border of Chile and Bolivia. At the salar, you get off the jeep and can take dream-like pictures!
(6) Quintero, Chile
After a long drive to the coast, we arrived just in time for the show! And had “once” (tea and biscuits) by the ocean. It was summer. Such a relaxing time.
(7) Cartagena de las Indias, Colombia
This is my favourite city in Colombia, full of colourful houses, wooden balconies, exotic flowers and set in the unique landscape of the Caribbean.
(8) Île à Vache, Haïti
Haïti is surprising! Haïti is irresistible! Although its capital is overwhelming and chaotic, its hidden islands are quiet and peaceful.
(9) North of Corsica, France
French Island, Corsica, is also known as the island of beauty! True fact! Perfect for a mother-daughter get away of hiking and tasting unique cuisine.
(10) Béarn, France
I went to another part of France, to the Pyrenees, and it was as if I were traveling far away! There, people speak a dialect, have their own traditional dancing and singing and live in the middle of the mountains. I helped a shepherd taking his 130 ewes down the mountain before winter. The surrounding was stunning!
I’ve picked out my top 10 travel photos that i’ve taken. Not just for the image itself but also for the memories attached to them… Let me take you on a journey. Enjoy 🙂
(1) The Chitwan District, Nepal
Sunset over rice fields in Nepal. You can see The Himalayas peeking out in the background. This photo was taken during monsoon season when the rice fields were soaked with monsoon rain.
(2) Bodh Gaya, India
Colourful prayer flags on top of a hill. Bogh Gaya was a very spiritual place. This image reminds me of the most adventurous 3 days we had in India.
(3) Taj Mahal, India
A side view of the stunning wonder. I love the beautiful colours of the women’s saris in the foreground.
(4) Florianópolis, Brazil
Finding paradise – discovering a deserted beach after walking along a trail for 2hrs. Pure bliss!
(5) Perito Moreno Glacier, Argentina
Stunning – the 30km long glacier.
(6) San Pedro de Atacama, Chile
The driest desert in the world. Landscape like i’ve never seen before. So unspoilt. These men were enjoying an afternoon of horse riding.
(7) Altiplano Andino, Bolivia.
Just beautiful. Part of a journey from Chile to Bolivia. You may not believe it from the photo but it was freezing!
(8) The Amazon Rainforest, Brazil
Drifting through The Amazon and playing panpipes.
(9) Gran Sabana, Venezuela
Finding this beauty after being on buses for many days to get to Venezuela.
(10) Pichilemu, Chile
Camping at the end of a special trip in middle Chile. The bright lights of the town from the camping site.
